Spring Gala Frequently Asked Questions
When, what time, and where is the luncheon?
The luncheon is on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Halls of St. George, 905 E. Joliet St., Schererville, IN 46375, from 12:00pm – 4:00pm.
What are the ticket prices? Who can come? What is the deadline for tickets?
The tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for children 15 and under, and $10 for MAITO students. This is a great opportunity to invite Grandparents, extended family and friends. The deadline to buy tickets is April 21, 2014. Remember, seating is arranged by the order the tickets were purchased so buy your tickets as soon as possible. There will be 10 people seated at each table. This is a huge family event…we expect nearly 500 people to attend this year.
What time do the students actually perform?
The main event of the Montessori Adventure at Sea Gala is the student’s performance. The students work really hard to learn their songs and routines. Each class performs a set of songs to go along with the Sea Theme. The students perform promptly at 12:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to take pictures or video of their children on stage. We ask that you please remain seated on the ground in front of the stage if you choose to do so. This enables everyone to enjoy the performance without an obstructed view. It is also important that we respect every class during their performance and restrict talking. The student’s performance is the highlight of the day; we want everyone to be able to enjoy it!
How do we dress for the event?
The event is business casual dress for guests.
What kind of food is served?
The menu is fried chicken, mostaccioli (plain sauce), mashed potatoes, corn, salad, bread rolls, and ice cream served family-style.
Is there entertainment?
After the students perform and we all eat lunch, we have a DJ who will perform fun party favorites like the Chicken Dance, the Macarena, and the Electric Slide. This is such great fun for old and young alike, so be ready to dance! We also have a few other things planned for the Montessori Adventures at Sea Gala. We will have games, prizes, and special snacks.
What types of items are in the silent auction and raffle tables?
The Silent Auction includes admission tickets to museums, sports events, water parks, and restaurants. We also have unique items that have been donated from local companies or families from the school. There is something for everyone at the Gala. The Silent Auction is a fundraiser so “Bid to Win” if you see something you want. We will send a list of the items for the silent auction and basket raffle closer to the event date. All items must be paid for at the end of the event and can be paid for by cash or check. New to the Gala this year will be a Cake Walk sponsored by A Sweet Arrangement. We also do a 50/50 Raffle and have a donation box for people who wish to make a monetary contribution. Please let Ms. Carol know if you would like a receipt for your tax-exempt donation. This is our largest and most important fundraiser of the year. We hope that everyone has fun bidding and remembers that 100% of the money raised goes towards a great cause, our children’s education.
What does the Memory Book consist of?
The ad book is a great keepsake. It includes ads from businesses, especially parent business and workplaces. You can purchase a Keepsake Ad for your child. The Keepsake Ad is personalized with a picture of your child and personal message of your choice. There are booklets by the office if you would like to see examples from previous years. The deadline to submit business ads or Keepsake Ads is April 11, 2014. Booklets will be professionally printed at Beryl Martin.
How can parents help?
We ask that each family volunteers to do at least one thing to prepare for the Gala. If each family helps, we will be able to create a magical memory for our children.
Parents can help by requesting donations from businesses you frequent, as well as asking your place of employment to place an ad in the ad book or donate an item/service. Families can donate items or baskets for the Silent Auction. Each student will receive a letter asking for a small donation. Your donation will go towards purchasing an item for the Silent Auction on behalf of your class. The Montessori Adventures at Sea Gala is a huge event. We thank you for your help and generosity.
We really want to make it a FUN and memorable day for the children. We really need the help of parents in the coming months to accomplish our goals. The response has been tremendous thus far and it is truly appreciated. We have jobs that can be easily completed at home, some that can be accomplished in an hour at the school, and others that simply require manpower to complete in a timely manner. Please contact Angela Thomas if you can help.
We will need ANY AND ALL help that you can offer the day before (April 26, 2014) and the morning of the Gala. We have a LOT to complete in a three-hour time frame. We will meet around 8 a.m. at the Halls of St. George on the morning of the Gala. In the past, we have had enough time to completely set up and return home to get ready. If we have enough volunteers, we can easily set everything up in 2 ½ hours.
How can I purchase flowers and the a special “Sea” themed treat for my child?
You will be able to pr-eorder fresh flowers with a handwritten note and a special “Sea” themed treat to present to your child after the performance. Order forms will be sent home at a later date. Children love the special recognition for their Stage Performance! We will have a limited number of flowers and treats available for purchase at the check-in table. We cannot guarantee we will have enough supplies the day of the event. Pre-ordering is the best way to guarantee that your child receives flowers or a treat!
Can I expect more information to come or is this it?
Yes, we have more information about the Spring Gala as we finalize our plans. Other specifics will be sent home in letter format and reminders will be sent by e-mail. If you have not submitted a current e-mail address, please e-mail Angela Thomas and you will be added to the list.
Feel free to contact Miss Carol or a School Board Member with your questions or ideas. We are always looking for new ideas or suggestions on how to make the day more memorable.
